2021 Wedding Cake Trends

After the number of weddings that have had to be cancelled or dramatically scaled back over the last few months, next year is sure to see some big weddings as people try to make up for 2020.

And one of the most dramatic touches you can add to your wedding is the wedding cake. Here are the cake trends we expect to feature in weddings throughout 2021.

Watercolour effects

A traditional wedding cake features white icing, perhaps with a coloured ribbon to match the wedding colour scheme.

Next year, expect to see a lot of cakes where the icing is coloured to match the scheme. The use of edible paint, to give the cake a watercolour effect is also set to be a big trend in 2021.

Personalised wedding cakes

One trend we expect to begin to die out in 2021, is the double-sided cake - where one represents the bride and one the groom. These need to be made just right and can be very complex to design.

Instead, personalised cakes will see cakes that feature designs from the wedding stationery and calligraphy that matches invitations.

Dramatic colours

Cakes can be coloured in any shade, so why not go for a dramatic black cake?

This will contrast beautifully with a white wedding dress, and the cake can include little touches of your colour scheme.

A black cake is also sure to be a talking point for guests.

Floral additions

If you go for a traditional white wedding cake, why not add a touch of spectacle with some floral additions.

Rather than fresh flowers, why not try dried edible flowers, sugar flowers or flowers made from edible paper?

Edible flowers can add to the aroma of the cake and, as they are dried, you can keep them afterwards. Sugar flowers or edible paper flowers are also on trend, which will see fewer inedible decorations on cakes.

Whatever cake trends you choose, there are some things that never go out of fashion. A beautiful wedding venue is one of those things. Contact us to discuss how we can help make your big day truly the happiest day of your life.
