Myres Castle, dating back to 1530 is steeped in Scottish history!

Situated in Fife, close by the village of Auchtermuchty, the land itself originally belonged to the Earl of Fife, which was then granted to Robert Coxwell, Mace Bearer and Sergeant at Arms to James I of Scotland in 1424. After Coxwell’s death, his widow married John Scrymgeour, Master of Work for royal buildings for James V and Mary Queen of Scots. Scrymgeour’s grandson, also named John is believed to have built and designed the original part of the castle as a Z-plan fortress back in 1530. The tower features garland stonework, heraldic relief with carved initials and a parapet as well as many additional Victorian and Medieval features throughout.

The castle passed out from the Scrymgeour family in 1611 and was then owned by some of Scotland’s most famous family names for the next 250 years – including Bruce, Patterson and Moncrieff. In 1887 the castle was owned by James Ogilvie Fairlie before being passed down the family line to Captain David Fairlie. During the 1960’s the castle went through complete restoration and now serves as one of Scotland’s most beautiful wedding venues!
